Paolo Pedrizzetti was born in 1947, majored in science at high school and took a degree in architecture at the Politecnico di Milano in 1973. After some initial experience in housing design and site management, in 1978 he started work as a product designer with Davide Mercatali. Out of this collaboration, which grew into a partnership in 1982, came some commercially successful industrial products characterized by a precise image and a strong advertising bent (taps, handles, shelves, cutlery, lamps, household goods, chairs, tables, fireplaces, bathroom items, ceramics, furnishing accessories. In 1988 he opened a design studio with his wife Raffaella Mattia and carried on his work as a product designer. From 1988 to 1994 was editor of the magazines Blu&Rosso and Bagno&Bagni. In 1993 he was one of the founders of the “Associazione Culturale ABC Incontri sul Progetto”. He has been a consultant for “Il Bagno Oggi e Domani” published by Reed Business Information Group since 1995. He now provides consulting on new product development and advertising for a number of major industrial groups. Certain object are in permanent collections in museums (Chicago-Ill (USA), Munich (Germany), San Diego-Cal (USA), the Museum of Modern Art in Prato (Florence). Others were short-listed for the Compasso d’Oro Award (1979, 1981, 1987, 1991), the ADI Design Index (1998/1999, 2002, 2003, 2004), the Lljubljana BIO Award (1981, 1984, 1992, 1996) and for the Adi-Tecnhotel (1987, 1989, 1990, 1991). In 2002 he won the Comfort & Design -ADI Award and was given a Red Dot Award by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen. In 1993 one of his products was featured in the merchandising of New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
